Balancing Sustainability in Partnership With Confederation College
Sustainability has become a focus for not only Sodexo but the University community as well. We recognize that we have a responsibility to use our resources wisely and to protect them for future generations. Here at Confederation College and on campuses around the country, Sodexo is committed to developing and measuring ways to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, to conserve water, promote responsible waste management and reduce the use of toxic chemicals. Here are just a few of the things we are doing on Confederation Campus:
Baabaashi Gibichii Now Serving Local Birch Bark Coffee Company
Fresh roasted, CertifiedOrganic, Fair-Trade and SPP (Small Producers) Certified coffee, grown and produced by farmers that are Indigenous descendants. $1.00 from each bag of coffee sold goes towards providing clean drinking water to homes in First Nations communities.
Too Good To Go
Too Good To Go is a service on a mobile app that connects customers to restaurants and stores that have surplus unsold food to help reduce food waste and make meals more accessible.
Bio-Degradable Containers
All our of packaging is bio-degradable, compostable or recyclable:
- Take-out sandwiches salad packages
- Soup bowls
- Plastic and paper bags
Xpress Nap
Our Xpress Nap Dispensers save energy and waste. Not only are the napkins made of 100% recycled paper, the dispensers encourage customers to take (and waste) fewer napkins. Energy is saved because less power is used to recycle paper products than to create them from virgin material.
Soup Bowls
Our Soup bowls are BPI Certified compostable, and made from 100% renewable resources.
Harvest Fibre Take-Out Containers
Our harvest fibre take-out containers are produced from annual renewable natural fibres, and are 100% compostable
Eliminating Single-Use Plastic
Our Greenware Plastics are made from 100% renewable resources, and are plant-based plastic. The following plastic products have been replaced with natural material: from plastic straws to paper straws, plastic stir sticks to wooden stir sticks, and plastic take-out bags replaced with paper bags.

Cage Free Eggs
We are shifting all our shell eggs to cage-free sources. The shift is part of our Sodexo Better Tomorrow Plan, a commitment to utilizing sustainably raised products.
Tray-less Dining
Tray-less dining reduced the amount of water and detergent that is used, reduces energy consumption to operate the dish-washing machines, and an effort to reduce food waste.
